Tailored intercultural programs for businesses in Germany, Austria, and Romania

Intercultural experts for Romania, Germany
and Austria

kulturtrain was founded by Volina Șerban and Șerban Busuioc (yes, one’s surname is the other’s first name, so you could say we were destined to work together). With years of experience navigating the fine art of German precision, Austrian Schmäh, and Romanian resourcefulness, we have seen it all: from hilarious cultural misunderstandings to inspiring moments of connection.

About Volina

About Șerban

Living in Vienna for nearly a decade, Volina has become an expert in navigating the Austrian way of doing business. She combines her background in interpreting, intercultural psychology, and training with hands-on experience working for EU agencies, government institutions, and multinational businesses. From high-stakes conferences to delicate negotiations, she has helped teams untangle cultural differences to create meaningful collaboration.

One of her most rewarding projects was mediating between Romanian and Austrian teams in the creative industry. At a radio organisation, she aligned the Romanian team’s flexible approach with the Austrian team’s structured style, resulting in a smoothly run project that showcased the strengths of both cultures.

Based in Berlin, Șerban has built a career as a sought-after conference interpreter and intercultural consultant. His work often places him at the centre of critical moments, from facilitating works councils for major multinational corporations to ensuring seamless communication in high-stakes international meetings.

Șerban has worked with some of the world’s biggest names in the automotive and fashion industries, helping their teams navigate the cultural nuances that influence negotiations, leadership, and teamwork. Whether it is aligning German efficiency with Romanian flexibility or bridging the gap between creative and technical departments, Șerban excels at turning potential conflicts into productive collaborations.

Our mission:
Empowering cross-cultural business success

At kulturtrain, we know that the success of any business partnership does not just depend on strategy or numbers. It is rooted in how well people connect and communicate across cultural lines. In a world where differences can either divide or inspire, we see cultural diversity as a powerful tool for innovation and growth.

Our mission is to guide businesses in Germany, Austria, and Romania through the complexities of intercultural collaboration. We help teams break down barriers, turn potential misunderstandings into moments of connection, and create an environment where ideas thrive and partnerships flourish.

Bridge cultural gaps with professional intercultural training and consultancy

Overcoming cross-cultural challenges with the right tools

At kulturtrain, we have seen these kinds of challenges play out time and time again. A Romanian manager may see a German colleague’s blunt feedback as rude, while the German sees the Romanian’s indirect communication as evasive.

Turning cultural differences into business opportunities

We do this work because we have been in the room when these dynamics play out, and we know that with the right tools and guidance, these differences can become strengths rather than obstacles. We are passionate about helping businesses succeed by embracing the richness of cultural diversity.

The cost of cultural misunderstandings in business

Cultural misunderstandings can be costly: missed deadlines, broken trust, and even failed business ventures. For example, did you know that Walmart failed in Germany partly because they underestimated cultural differences in terms of team management and motivation?

Our approach to intercultural training and consultancy

Empathy first

We take the time to truly understand your challenges. In one training session, we guided a German-Romanian team through a role-playing exercise that revealed their biggest source of conflict was not technical, but rather a misunderstanding of feedback styles.

Actionable solutions

Every workshop, coaching session, and consultancy project is designed to deliver practical, results-driven strategies. For example, we use tools like high- vs. low-context communication models to help teams decode cultural signals and avoid miscommunication.

From role-playing scenarios to case studies from real German-Romanian-Austrian partnerships, we make learning an experience, not just a lecture. Our interactive methods ensure participants leave with practical tools they can apply immediately in their daily work.
